Male Volunteer Mentor wanted for Rockingham/Southern areas

Department For Communities; Child Protection And Family Support – Baldivis WA

A mentor is an everyday person who likes to help others, especially young people. The simple act of being present during a walk together, or a hot chocolate and a casual chat provides opportunity for connection, this makes a world of difference to a young person who feels disconnected and unheard. You could be this person, the someone who provides opportunity for a young person to feel connected and empowered, and creating positive potential in their life.

As a mentor, you would be involved in befriending and supporting a young person who is in the care of the Department for Communities. You would be providing the young person a stable and grounded role model; taking the time to build a relationship and providing an alternative lens on the world alongside them. You must be able to commit for a minimum of 12 months, though we hope this may last longer if all is going well. Your commitment is based around catching up with the young person every 2 weeks for 2+ hours at a time, after 4 initial weekly sessions for the first 4 weeks.

Joining our team, the Program Coordinator provides initial training and supports you to begin your mentoring journey. Once engaged, you are provided regular individual supervision, networking opportunities with mentors and whole program events. You will be supported in your unfolding adventure, as each journey will bring different experiences for everyone. It is essential to have some space in your life to take this role on and the ability for commit for the 12 months.
