Bennett + Bennett is seeking a Principal Urban Designer to join our growing Urban Design team in Brisbane. This is a key leadership role within one of Queensland's most respected multidisciplinary consultancies, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across diverse development projects.
Your Role and Impact
Design Leadership: Lead the design and delivery of residential, mixed-use, and industrial projects across Queensland. From high-level structure planning to detailed subdivision and master planning.
Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with private developers, councils, and consultant teams, providing strategic design advice that balances vision, feasibility, and compliance.
Project Management: Oversee design programs, project budgets, and documentation quality to ensure successful delivery and client satisfaction.
Technical Expertise: Apply advanced design knowledge and software capability (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Adobe Suite, QGIS, etc.) to guide drafting and design documentation workflows.
Mentorship: Support and mentor junior design and drafting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
Planning Integration: Work closely with our Planning, Surveying, and Spatial teams to develop integrated design solutions that align with statutory frameworks and local planning schemes.
This position is ideal for a seasoned urban designer with strong technical grounding and leadership qualities, seeking a role where they can contribute both creatively and strategically to project outcomes.
What We're Looking For
Extensive Local Experience: Proven track record delivering urban design and subdivision projects across Queensland, with sound understanding of local planning frameworks and council processes.
Design Leadership: Strong conceptual design capability supported by the ability to translate ideas into practical, deliverable outcomes.
Technical Competence: Advanced skills in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D are essential. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, QGIS, or SketchUp will be highly regarded.
Client & Stakeholder Confidence: Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills with clients, councils, and consultants.
Team Mentorship: Ability to guide and review the work of other designers and drafters, maintaining high design and documentation standards.
Professional Recognition: Eligibility for membership with the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) or similar professional body preferred.
