The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to take full ownership of TJG's national payroll function. This is a senior, hands‐on role responsible for the delivery, compliance and governance of payroll across 500+ employees in five states, covering both Retail Award and corporate/warehouse staff. You will be the organisation's payroll authority – owning accuracy, compliance, system integrity and continuous improvement – while partnering closely with Finance, HR and Retail Leadership.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is responsible for:
* End-to-end payroll delivery for 500+ employees across 5 states
* Retail Award, corporate and warehouse payroll compliance
* Fortnightly payroll processing, review and sign-off
* STP, superannuation and payroll tax compliance
* Payroll reporting, audit readiness and remediation
What You Will Be Doing
* Own and deliver accurate, compliant payroll across TJG's national workforce
* Ensure Retail Award penalties, overtime and minimum engagements are paid correctly
* Validate roster-to-pay accuracy through UKG and Payroll Metrics
* Manage STP, superannuation and multi-state payroll tax
* Identify and resolve payroll errors, back payments and adjustments
* Provide payroll data and technical expertise to HR in support of Fair Work and compliance activities
* Lead payroll audits, reconciliations and reporting
* Own payroll systems, pay rules and integrations
* Drive process improvements to reduce risk, rework and errors
* Provide clear, confident advice to employees, leaders and HR
What You Will Bring
* Proven experience running payroll for a medium to large national workforce
* 5+ years of payroll systems experience
* Strong knowledge of the General Retail Industry Award
* Experience with multi-state payroll tax, STP and superannuation
* Confidence working with rostering systems and payroll integrations
* Ability to operate independently as the payroll authority
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
* High attention to detail with commercial awareness
* Experience with contemporary HRIS (Payroll Metrics is advantageous)
