Director/Head of Department Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Senior Staff Specialist Clinician SMO2.1 - SMO2.3 – Remuneration Package Range $315,843 - $349,187 (including salary $270,033 - $298,705) + allowances

Division of Women Children and Youth | Darwin | One vacancy fixed for 3 years | Part time 0.5 (19 hrs) per week

The Service

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is a high‐acuity, multidisciplinary unit delivering specialist care to women across the Northern Territory. Services include generalist obstetrics and gynaecology, maternal‐foetal medicine, gynaecological oncology, colposcopy, urogynaecology, reproductive health, and a hospital‐supported homebirth programme. The department collaborates with Charles Darwin University, Menzies School of Health Research and Pacific Island nations for teaching, research and global health.

The Role

As the Head of Department Obstetrics and Oncology, you will provide leadership to the O&G Department, report to the Divisional Medical Co‐Director and support the Divisional Medical and Nursing Co‐Directors with implementation of clinical and organisational priorities to deliver safe, timely, efficient, effective, equitable and person‐centred clinical services.

Key Duties

* Provide leadership for the Department, including patient flow management, safety and quality, clinical audit, review, and junior staff supervision, training and teaching.
* Support divisional clinical governance, operations and implement strategic programmes through close working relationship with the RDPH Executive Team.
* Lead a culture of high‐performing teams, professional excellence and accountability within the NT Health Values.
* Perform human resource responsibilities, including direct supervision of medical staff, allocation of duties, establishment of rosters, performance management and monitoring of staffing levels, workloads and hours worked.
* Lead continuous quality improvement activities and clinical outcome measurement, planning and development of procedures and guidelines.
* Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
* Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role‐modelling behaviour.

About you

* Eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and current Fellowship of relevant Medical College.
* Completed not less than the equivalent of six years of full‐time service in medical practice as a Staff Specialist.
* Have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively as a Director in a cross‐cultural work environment.
