We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Deputy Mill Manager to support the overall leadership, performance, and continuous improvement of mill operations.
In this role, you will lead the mill team in achieving health, safety, production, and cost performance objectives while fostering effective collaboration across operational, technical, maintenance, and support functions. You will provide strong leadership to ensure alignment between departments, support relationships with external stakeholders, and contribute to the achievement of the company's strategic goals. The position is also responsible for supporting the budgeting process through cost estimation and financial analysis, identifying and implementing solutions to improve operational performance, reduce risk, and optimize plant processes. During the Mill Manager's absence, you will assume full responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and management of the mill plant.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the mill department to exceed plant performance and cost targets.
* Health and safety objectives are achieved or surpassed through adherence to company policies and support of initiatives.
* Plant performance is maintained through development of supporting technologies and effective utilization of plant key process indicators.
* Process availability targets are achieved through effective support of subgroup activities and scheduling of trades activities inline with equipment requirements and business needs.
* Costs targets are established through effective budgeting protocols to ensure targets are set to challenge business performance and cost controls are maintained.
* Mill subgroups are managed to ensure alignment to business needs and to support cross-boundary needs, fostering strong bonds between internal and external stakeholders.
* Activities are performed inline with company policies related to safety, environment, and CLA guidelines.
* Lead and manage a team responsible for executing mill strategy.
* Set performance targets, measures, monitor and manage the overall performance of the team and direct reports.
* Build the capabilities of the team to enhance technical competencies, hire appropriately, leverage the talents of the team, and take corrective action when necessary.
* Identify key performance measures for the team; monitor and report on the achievement of targets, and revise strategies as needed.
* Initiate and lead change management initiatives that improve operations and utilization of assets or personnel.
* Demonstrate that safety is a priority in the execution of all assigned tasks.
* Use experience and technical exposure to support mill optimization initiatives.
* Lead initiatives to further enhance process performance, including defining and achieving project goals, anticipating and managing risks, and supporting resources.
* Support internal and external stakeholder initiatives targeting cost reduction and controls.
* Support mine-to-mill initiatives including geo‐metallurgy and operationally linked processes that target cost and performance aspects.
* Appraise processing methods and operating costs. Identify key success factors and issues that could impact the economic viability of potential projects under consideration.
* Demonstrate strict adherence to management of change (MOC) processes, ensuring all changes and modifications to the operation and its assets are well documented.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Minimum of 12 years of experience in mineral processing or mill operations within the mining industry.
* At least 8 years of leadership experience in a supervisory or management role.
* Strong knowledge of mineral processing operations, metallurgical principles, and plant optimization.
* Experience with budgeting, cost control, financial analysis, and forecasting.
* Knowledge of production planning, performance monitoring, and operational reporting.
* Strong understanding of risk management, continuous improvement, and operational excellence practices.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
* Ability to thrive in a fast‐paced, dynamic, and multicultural work environment.
* Willingness to work in Brokopondo on a rotational schedule of 14 days on duty followed by 7 days off.
* A valid Proof of Good Conduct (Bewijs van Goed Gedrag) is required upon selection and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
