The growth in demand for high-performance navigation systems across defence, aerospace, and autonomous sectors has driven the need for this pioneering hire.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design and development of Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG) systems for optimal performance and manufacturabilityDevelop and scale up FOG manufacturing processes for high-volume productionCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate hardware, software, and production effortsAnalyse and troubleshoot test data to continuously enhance FOG performanceEstablish efficient test processes and tooling for fibre optic coilsGuide production engineering teams with metrics, SPC implementation, and technical supportStay current with technological advancements in photonics and inertial navigationMaintain a strong focus on customer needs and application performance in demanding environmentsDesired Skills and AttributesBachelor's or Master's in Physics, Optics, Photonics, or Electrical EngineeringProven expertise in Fiber Optic Gyroscopes and their underlying principles (e.g. Sagnac effect)Experience in designing and integrating electro-optical systemsDeep knowledge of light sources, optical fibers, modulators, and detectorsFamiliarity with scaling up precision manufacturing processesExcellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skillsProactive, ownership-driven mindset with strong problem-solving abilityPhD in a related fieldBackground in defence, aerospace, or autonomous systemsExposure to inertial navigation algorithms and modeling toolsTraining in root cause analysis (RCA) and 8D methodologiesWhy Join?This is a rare opportunity to lead innovation in an emerging Australian frontier of photonics and navigation technology.
