The North Shore Ryde Mental Health Service is looking for an experienced Mental Health Nurse to work in the Emergency Department as a Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 (CNC1). This is a temporary full-time position until 15 October 2026 with the possibility of ongoing employment.

Role purpose: The Mental Health Clinical Nurse Consultant, Grade 1 (CNC1) provides expert mental health assessment and initial intervention for individuals of all ages presenting to the Emergency Department at Royal North Shore Hospital. The CNC will determine a plan of care in collaboration with ED staff and relevant mental health staff, which may include discharge with follow-up or admission to the mental health inpatient unit. The CNC will manage patient flow for mental health in the ED and assist in meeting Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP) targets. The CNC will promote clinical, educational and professional leadership within ED and the Mental Health Inpatient Units, collaborating with health care providers, consumer groups and other community services to develop clinical practice and family-oriented standards in emergency and acute mental health care. The CNC will demonstrate knowledge of quality improvement principles, equal employment opportunity (EEO) and workplace health and safety (WH&S) requirements.
Requirements:
* Current unrestricted registration with AHPRA as a registered nurse and at least 5 years full-time equivalent post-graduate experience with approved post-registration nursing qualifications relevant to the clinical area.
* Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to document assessment outcomes contemporaneously.
* Proven ability to provide clinical leadership to Emergency Department and Generalist clinicians in managing mental health patients with demonstrated ability to network and communicate across a range of internal and external partners.
