Join Southern Adelaide Local Health Network as an AHA3 Welfare Officer and provide essential psychosocial support to patients and families navigating mental health challenges at Flinders Medical Centre. You will conduct assessments, facilitate discharge planning, and deliver crisis intervention services as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team. This full-time contract position until January 2027 offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact in mental health care while working for South Australia's largest health network.
About the role:
Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, the Welfare Officer is an integral part of the MTC Social Work team and works alongside Social Workers to provide a wide range of assistance to inpatient consumers including, but not limited to, assistance with accommodation, finances, accessing support, discharge planning, and community support. The Welfare Officer is responsible for the provision of a range of specialist consultancy and information services to inpatient consumers, families and staff to enhance the patient journey and recovery.
Duties for the role will include:
* Working alongside the social workers to identify and resolve welfare issues which impede timely discharge,
* Establishing and advising eligibility for, and access to, a range of social services,
* Assisting consumers to access appropriate services
* Maintaining good working relationships with a range of community accommodation providers – SRFs, boarding houses, crisis accommodation,
* Maintaining up to date information about accommodation providers,
* Attending staff meetings and other relevant meetings as required,
* Maintaining records in accordance with team procedure
About you:
* Demonstrated ability in working collaboratively with consumers from a wide range of diverse cultural and social backgrounds,
* High level of interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and writing skills,
* Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, use initiative, and organise work autonomously in a demanding and diverse environment,
* Demonstrated experience working with, and understanding issues facing, people with disabilities/mental illness,
* Demonstrated experience working with and advocating for clients to address a wide range of welfare needs
