This position will work with scientists across the Research Program and contribute to or lead the development of software applications to deliver solutions that meet customers\' needs.
Recent projects of the type this role will contribute to include forecasting of fog and volcanic ash, customised forecasts of wind and hazardous weather, and renewable energy relevant forecasts to support the energy transition in Australia and internationally.This role will contribute to multiple and diverse projects, sometimes concurrently, so flexibility and demonstrated project experience are required.
Core competencies include excellent software engineering ability, experience in developing complex scientific or engineering applications suitable for operational use, and experience in applying computational algorithms to large data volumes.
Statistical analysis and machine learning knowledge and experience, including direct development of complex algorithms, would be an advantage.
The role will also benefit from data engineering experience.
Some background in mathematics, statistics or physical sciences is highly desirable.
