Job Summary
Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to an identified student in a classroom or other learning environment.
Qualifications
* Possesses High School Diploma or Equivalency
* Assures compliance with Employment Eligibility, Criminal History Record, Pre-Employment Drug Testing, and Physical Examination/TB Test Standard
* Demonstrates ability to meet \"Highly Qualified\" status under the No Child Left Behind legislation
o Associates Degree (or)
o Forty‐eight post‐secondary credits (or)
o Successful completion of District approved assessment
* Possesses experience working with children, including those with special needs, in an organized setting
* Possesses proficiency in the English language with strong oral and written communication skills
* Possesses ability to deal courteously and tactfully with school personnel and the public
* Possesses ability to operate a computer, assigned software, and other office equipment as assigned
* Possesses ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
* Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others
* Knowledge of:
o Academic principles and practices
o Child development
o Basic subjects including: mathematics, science, social studies, grammar, spelling, language and reading
o Basic instructional methods, techniques and practices
o Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct
Primary Job Functions

* Understand, relate and assist children with special needs, which may include toileting, feeding, and/or other self‐help skills
* Reinforce instruction within individual or small groups of identified student, as directed by the teacherMonitor and oversee student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects
* Assist assigned teacher in implementation of student behavior plan, lesson plan and materials to meet student needs
* Assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures
* Assist student in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects; answer questions and provide proper examples; present a friendly attitude and provide general guidance
* Perform a variety of duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating and filing instructional materials, reports and documentation
* Provide classroom support to the teacher by setting up work areas and displays; distribute and collect paper, supplies and materials
* Track, record and input data for daily ACCESS billing
* Submit daily ACCESS logs to Director of Special Education on a monthly basis by the due date
* Communicate with school personnel to exchange information and to assist in resolving issues or concerns
* Maintain annual compliance with Chapter 14 requirements
* Maintain regular and timely attendance
Secondary Job Functions
* Understand, relate and assist children with special needs, which may include toileting, feeding, and/or other self‐help skills
* Read books to student and assist with reading and writing activities as assigned
* Assist with ordering supplies as directed
* Comply with District health and safety regulations
* Maintain current CPR/AED/First Aid certifications and other related ACCESS billing requirements
* Attend meetings and training as assigned
* Perform related duties as assigned

Terms of Employment
