The Manager City Works is a key senior leadership role at a Coastal NSW Council, south of Sydney. This position is responsible for the operational delivery, strategic direction, and continuous improvement of essential city services and infrastructure. The successful candidate will lead a large workforce of skilled and semi-skilled employees, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and sustainable outcomes that directly enhance the quality of life for the whole community.

This person must be a proven, hands on, operational leader who has a strong background in managing large teams. They will have a focus on direct workforce leadership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will have:

* Demonstrated experience leading large teams of skilled and semi-skilled employees in operational environments (civil works, utilities, infrastructure, etc).
* Proven ability to successfully manage across multiple service areas such as civil maintenance and facilities.
* Skills in workforce planning, performance management, and staff development.
* Experience overseeing substantial operational and capital budgets in a complex environment.
* Excellent working knowledge of WHS, risk management, and compliance.
* Ability to work with unions and maintain strong workforce relations.
* Track record of innovation and continuous improvement in operational service delivery.

Key Responsibilities include:

* Oversee delivery of civil construction, maintenance, facilities management, plant/fleet operations, and after-hours emergency response.
* Drive a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service excellence.
* Champion innovation, best practice, and workforce development.
* Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, elected officials, unions, and the community.
* Provide strategic and operational advice to Council, Executive Management, and the Senior Leadership Team.

You will have:

* A recognized degree in Engineering (Civil) and associated memberships or eligibility will be an advantage
* Experience directly managing large, varied teams in a public sector body
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others
* Strong budgetary and financial acumen
* Ability to prioritise and be solutions focused
