PassMark Software is a software and hardware company headquartered in Sydney, Australia, with a US office in Redwood City, California. We've spent 27 years building the tools that engineers, investigators, and IT teams rely on to answer hard questions about computer hardware and digital evidence. Our USB Power Delivery and data transmission testing equipment is used worldwide by leading hardware OEMs - including Apple, Dell, Garmin, and many others - to validate their own products through design, certification, and production.
We are looking for an experienced hardware engineer to lead our hardware team, which currently consists of two Hardware Engineers reporting into this role. This is a working leadership position: you will set technical direction, mentor the team, and remain hands‐on across design, firmware, and production.
We are looking for a hardware engineering leader with a demonstrated track record of taking products from concept through to shipping volume, ideally in the USB, high‐speed interface, or test and measurement space. The successful candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a similar discipline, and will bring a deep technical skill set developed across a hardware engineering career - spanning circuit design, PCB layout, firmware, and production. Proven leadership capability, including experience developing and mentoring junior engineers, is essential.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading and mentoring the hardware engineering team
* Setting technical direction across the hardware product line
* Hardware design, PCB layout, and component selection
* Firmware and device driver development in C on ARM microcontrollers
* Production planning, manufacturing support, and supply chain coordination
* Customer support escalations and field issue diagnosis
* Working with the CEO on hardware product roadmap and investment decisions
Required:
* Strong fundamentals in analog and digital circuit design
* Multi‐layer PCB layout, including high‐speed signal integrity
* Proven ability to take hardware products from concept through to shipping volume, including design for manufacture
* Prior leadership experience in a hardware engineering team
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or a similar discipline.
Highly regarded:
* RF experience (familiarity with VNAs, TDR, Spectrum Analysers)
* PCB schematic capture, layout design, and SI/PI simulation in Altium
* Experience with the USB protocol, particularly USB Power Delivery (USB‐PD) and high‐speed USB (USB 3.x / USB4 / Thunderbolt)
* Experience overseeing hardware assembly, manufacturing, and repair processes
* Experience working with overseas contract manufacturers and OEM engineering teams
This is a full‐time hybrid position based at our Surry Hills office in Sydney, near Central Station, with flexibility to work from home as the role allows. Given the hands‐on nature of the role, regular on‐site presence is required.
Applicants must have full working rights in Australia. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
Remuneration: Competitive package on offer, commensurate with experience. Details to be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
