Field Test Engineer
Brunel Perth, Western Australia, Australia
About This Role
Brunel has partnered with a leading resources company on a contract opportunity for a Field Test Engineer. This role is ideal for someone who is highly motivated and eager to work hands‑on with mine autonomy systems. You will need solid experience in field testing and system integration for AHS or heavy mobile equipment, and exposure to vehicle control systems and Linux tooling will be highly regarded.
The Field Test Engineer is an experienced professional with expertise in autonomous haulage systems (AHS) and a strong understanding of field testing in mining environments, focusing on verification for autonomous mining solutions involving heavy vehicles and complex distributed systems. They conduct hands‑on testing at remote mine sites, ensuring systems meet safety and performance specifications, collaborating with engineering, operations, and development teams to resolve issues and mitigate risks, delivering reliable and efficient autonomous operations. This role is hybrid, alternating between a 4/3 site roster and a 5/2 Perth‑based work schedule.
Responsibilities
* Plan and execute on‑site testing processes to verify AHS functionality at the system integration level, including interactions between obstacle detection, route navigation, and emergency subsystems.
* Calibrate and verify integrated vehicle control systems, sensors, and conduct integration, performance, and reliability tests while documenting results.
* Identify and troubleshoot hardware/software integration faults in autonomous systems, collaborating with teams to address challenges such as interface compatibility, data synchronization, and subsystem interoperability.
* Align testing with technical integration goals, engaging engineers, architects, and OEM partners to ensure seamless system integration and verification.
* Mitigate risks in integrated system environments, adhering to engineering standards and protocols.
* Track metrics (e.g., integration success rates, fault detection rates) to verify compliance with AHS system standards.
* Provide detailed reports on integration test outcomes, defects, and system readiness for further development.
Requirements
* Strong understanding of the mining product lifecycle, with a focus on field testing's role in ensuring operational safety and efficiency.
* Expertise in integration, system, regression, performance, hardware‑in‑the‑loop, and experimental testing for autonomous haulage systems.
* Deep knowledge of AHS technologies, sensors, vehicle controls, and mining‑specific challenges such as dust, vibration, and remote operations.
* Proven ability to conduct field tests for complex autonomous projects in remote sites.
* Analytical skills for diagnosing issues and interpreting test data in dynamic environments.
* Clear communication to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and report findings effectively.
* Strong Linux command line skills.
* Familiarity with traceability and test evidence gathering with common test management tooling.
