Job Summary
We are seeking a Laboratory Manager to join our growing team based in Townsville. This role leads laboratory operations, ensures quality assurance, and drives continuous improvement across our asphalt and associated materials operations.
Responsibilities
* Lead day‐to‐day laboratory operations across North Queensland.
* Oversee NATA and TMR CMT compliance for asphalt, quarry, soils and binder laboratory activities.
* Ensure accurate and timely test reporting, quality assurance outcomes, and ongoing mix design and batch card management.
* Drive continuous improvement, lean initiatives, safety practices and corrective actions to lift quality and performance.
* Liaise with suppliers, clients and internal stakeholders on technical, quality and project delivery matters.
* Lead team capability, laboratory resourcing, facilities, equipment and budget/CAPEX planning in conjunction with the Technical Manager.
* Support technical problem‐solving and the delivery of practical outcomes across laboratory and operational interfaces.
Qualifications / Experience
* Strong leadership experience with a proven ability to drive performance and support team development.
* Sound technical knowledge in laboratory, construction materials, asphalt, quarry, soils or related operational environments.
* Demonstrated attention to detail, communication skills and a proactive approach to problem‐solving.
* Relevant industry knowledge in asphalt materials, plant, surfacing, soils or construction materials (preferred but not essential).
* Understanding of production testing and onsite sampling practices, and of Queensland test methods, NATA requirements and Australian Standards (highly regarded).
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, science or a related field, or Certificate IV in Laboratory Operations or higher.
Travel Requirements
Requires travel to Mackay, Gladstone, Rockhampton and potentially other sites from time to time.
