Senior Consultant – Data Management and Reporting

Role Overview
This is a 19‐month fixed‐term, full‐time position commencing as soon as possible. The System and School Performance Directorate has three branches: Student Assessment and Reporting, System Performance, and School Performance. The System Performance Branch is responsible for coordination of system‐level reporting, collection and maintenance of statistics on schools and students, production of performance indicators used in strategic planning, management and reporting, advice on performance and statistical information, accountability arrangements, and evaluation activities.
Responsibilities
* Maintain and report key statistical and aggregated information for and about the Department in accordance with local and national requirements.
* Identify, evaluate, import, validate, store, and transform data from a range of sources to establish and maintain databases relating to schools, students and system performance.
* Respond to, and proactively anticipate, customer requests for aggregated information about students and schools in an accurate, timely and professional manner.
* Analyse student enrolment, achievement, behaviour, demographic and other corporate data, and prepare written correspondence, reports and briefings for Corporate Executive, ministerial offices, parliamentary processes, internal business units and external stakeholders.
* Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders on the interpretation and use of aggregated statistics and information relating to students and schools.
* Monitor and interrogate incoming information, undertake data verification and validation activities, investigate and resolve data quality issues, and provide accurate reports to meet stakeholder needs.
* Contribute to the collection, management and analysis of the biannual student census and other key departmental data collections.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative thinking and strategic options in solving complex problems related to the collection, management, analysis and reporting of school, student and system performance data.
* Demonstrated substantial skills and experience in data management, transformation, statistical analysis, presentation and reporting using SAS and data visualisation software.
* Demonstrated well developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to prepare high‐quality briefings related to data requests and publicly present findings of data analyses.
* Demonstrated substantial knowledge and understanding of data privacy, collection, management and reporting requirements, procedures and systems of Western Australian public and private schools concerning student enrolment, achievement, behaviour and demographic information.
