Estimator wanted: a standalone role pricing underground civil and HDD works for one of Victoria's busiest utility contractors.
We're DirectBor, a civil contractor putting Victoria's underground utilities in the ground. Our core work is horizontal directional drilling (HDD), cable hauling and underground electrical civil infrastructure for major distribution networks. We've held the same key client relationship for almost four decades, along with the steady volume of work that comes with it.
Right now, our project managers carry the estimating on top of running their jobs, and they do it well. But the volume and complexity of the work have grown to the point where estimating deserves its own focus. We're bringing on a dedicated Estimator to own the function full-time, free the PMs to run delivery, and build the tendering capability out properly as we scale.
What the role is
* Own the estimating and tendering function end-to-end, from take-offs through to submission and follow-up discussions with client PMs.
* Build, maintain and periodically review the company schedule of rates.
* Lead the development of a purpose-built quoting and tendering system to replace our current Excel-based setup.
* Support PMs on major contract and construction variations
* Review supply chain rates and support procurement negotiations
* Drive new business conversion through client liaison and tender follow-up
What we're looking for
* Estimating experience in civil construction: underground utilities or HDD is a strong advantage
* Contractor or subcontractor background: you understand how work is priced to win and to deliver margin
* Comfortable working from drawings, specifications, and rate schedules.
* Programme inputs will be provided by the PM team.
* Self-motivated and commercially sharp: you can work independently and know when to loop people in.
