Child Law – DCJ Legal

Principal location – Parramatta - Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Employment type – Temporary – Full time (35 hours) – Until 14 May 2027

Salary – Clerk Grade 9/10, Base Salary ($129,464 - $142,665), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

Join the Child Law team as a Senior Project Officer and play a key role in supporting the Audits and Claim program that contributes to better outcomes for children, young people and families across NSW. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and coordinate complex projects within a high-performing legal team that provides critical advice, advocacy and support in child protection matters. You will work closely with senior leaders, legal professionals and stakeholders across government to deliver strategic initiatives, drive continuous improvement and support service excellence in a dynamic and purpose-driven environment.

What you'll do

As part of the Child Law team, you will manage and coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of complex projects that support the delivery of legal services and strategic priorities across the business area.

You will lead project planning and delivery activities, coordinate stakeholders, manage reporting and governance requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness and service delivery.

The Audits and Claims programme works to ensure children and young people in out-of-home care receive the legal entitlements they may be eligible for, including for Victims Support. In this role, you will be responsible for:

* Identifying and implementing innovative ways to ensure the rights of Victims of Crime
* Helping to find and implement new ways to work with our external legal panel firms to achieve best-practice outcomes and maximise quality assurance
* Working with the Principal Manager, Child Law Allocations to develop efficiencies within existing resources
* Liaising with legal officers of all levels, including Principal Solicitors, to ensure the successful implementation of any changes
* Undertaking regular reporting to monitor the effectiveness of the programme
* Utilising current invoicing and practice management software to best effect to reach the goals of the programme
* Liaising with external stakeholders, including panel firms and Victims Services
* Supervise and support direct reports and contribute to a collaborative and high-performing team culture
* Contribute to strategic initiatives that support the Child Law team's work in child protection and related legal matters
* Work as part of a collaborative and dedicated team of legal, project and operational professionals who are passionate about achieving positive outcomes for children and young people across NSW.

What we're looking for

* Demonstrated experience working in child protection, out-of-home care or related field involving working in the best interests of vulnerable children and young people
* Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse teams and levels.
* Experience leading or supporting teams in a high-volume environment, managing resource constraints and creating innovative solutions to challenges using your strong organisational skills and an understanding of project management methodologies and governance practices.
