About the role
Castings Tasmania is seeking a skilled Fitter to join our team in our Youngtown, TAS 7249 facility. This is a full-time position, where you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and repairing heavy industrial machinery in a dynamic and challenging environment.
What you'll be doing
1. Perform mechanical fitting, assembly, and maintenance of heavy industrial equipment and production machinery.
2. Diagnose mechanical faults, carry out repairs, and perform preventative maintenance to minimise downtime.
3. Install and align mechanical components such as pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, rollers, and hydraulic systems.
4. Work from technical drawings, specifications, and manuals to ensure accurate assembly and installation.
5. Operate various tools and machines including grinders, drills, lathes, and welding equipment when required.
6. Conduct inspections and report equipment conditions, potential issues, and recommended improvements.
7. Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and ensure compliance with company safety standards.
8. Collaborate with other maintenance and production team members to support efficient operations.
9. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of tools, equipment, and the work area.
What we're looking for
1. Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitter and Turner / Fitter and Machinist) or equivalent.
2. Minimum 2-3 years of experience working in a heavy metal, foundry, or manufacturing environment
3. Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
4. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
5. Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
6. Welding and fabrication experience advantageous.
7. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
8. Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
9. Current Australian driver's licence
10. Australian citizenship or permanent residency with unrestricted work rights
