What if your work helped power the future?
At WSP, you’ll work on the projects the world truly needs — shaping Australia’s energy transition across thermal and renewable generation. You’ll be part of a globally connected team with the scale, support and technical depth to do your best work, alongside people who genuinely back your growth.
In this role, you’ll get:
* High-impact energy projects across renewables + thermal generation and emerging technologies
* Technical depth in functional safety assessments, industrial control, protection and communications systems (PLC/DCS, safety, protocols)
* Flexibility + career development with mentoring, pathways and national collaboration
The Opportunity
WSP’s Generation & New Energy team is growing, and we’re looking for a Senior or Associate Control Systems Engineer to play a pivotal role in the design and delivery of industrial control, protection and communication systems for power generation assets.
You’ll work across a diverse project portfolio from established generation to next‑gen solutions partnering closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to assess, design and implement fit‑for‑purpose systems that support safe, reliable and future-ready energy infrastructure.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll contribute across the full project lifecycle, including:
* Applying your power industry experience across renewable generation, gas turbines (OCGT/CCGT), coal-fired and hydro power stations
* Supporting design and delivery of control and instrumentation systems (PLC, DCS), functional safety systems (AS 61511), and EEHA-compliant designs
* Contributing to control, protection and communication architectures using industrial protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP, OPC and IEC 61850
* Working closely with electrical engineers on secondary systems, including protection and excitation systems
* Performing engineering analysis and ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and legislative requirements
* Maintaining alignment with WSP’s quality systems, technical governance and client expectations
* Supporting planning, cost and schedule management, and proactive risk mitigation
* Building strong internal networks and supporting client relationships
* Complying with all role-specific SHEQ obligations
About you
You’re a practical, collaborative engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and influencing safe outcomes. You’ll bring:
* A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or equivalent)
* Progression towards CPEng and professional registration (RPEQ, RPEV)
* Strong experience designing and delivering control and instrumentation systems
* Functional Safety Assessment (FSA) experience with relevant accreditation (essential)
* Demonstrated delivery across thermal and renewable power generation projects
* Consultancy experience delivering technically complex projects with multiple stakeholders
* Solid understanding of safety in design, risk management, QA and OH&S systems
* Strong skills in technical reporting, stakeholder engagement and mentoring
