V/Line’s purpose is to connect Victorians through secure, reliable, and accessible transport. We believe in giving all Victorians opportunities through travel and transport – connecting them to jobs, education, family and friends, services, tourism and trade.

We are experiencing significant growth and delivering more services, more trains, cheaper fares, and huge projects. With more than 3700 weekly train and coach services, an expansive freight network and unprecedented rail investment, millions of Victorians depend on us to deliver. You could be one of our 3100 committed team members who are up to the challenge.

At V/Line, we connect communities through safe, reliable and accessible transport. As part of our Asset Management and Performance division, you’ll contribute to a better passenger experience and help shape the future of rail in Victoria. We value initiative, curiosity and a thoughtful approach to problem‑solving.

About the role This full‑time position sits within V/Line’s Asset Reliability team and plays a key role in improving the performance of critical infrastructure across Victoria’s rail network. You’ll lead technical investigations, guide reliability improvements, and work across diverse asset classes including track, signalling, buildings and operational technology.

Key accountabilities include

Lead technical investigations into asset failures and identify solutions to prevent recurrence.

Facilitate structured RCM and FMECA workshops with engineering and maintenance teams.

Oversee and improve reliability data systems, including FRACAS and RCA tracking.

Interpret performance data to develop targeted reliability growth strategies.

Contribute to RAMS implementation and review Type Approval applications (EN 50126-1/2).

Work closely with engineering, maintenance and project teams to align reliability outcomes.

Provide expert advice and support others in applying reliability principles.

About you You’re a proactive engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and working with others to find practical solutions. You bring technical depth, a collaborative mindset, and the confidence to ask insightful questions that lead to better outcomes. You’re curious, adaptable, and motivated by the opportunity to make a real impact.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following

Engineering qualification (postgraduate in Reliability Engineering highly regarded).

Deep experience in infrastructure-heavy environments, ideally within rail or electrical systems.

Proven capability in reliability data analysis and root cause investigation.

Working knowledge of RAMS standards (EN 50126-1/2 and EN 50129).

Proficient in tools such as FRACAS, Isograph AWB/Reliasoft or equivalents.

Strong communicator with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.

Skilled in leading technical discussions and facilitating collaborative workshops.

Solid project management experience across complex engineering initiatives.

Demonstrated alignment with V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.

If your skills or experience don’t exactly match our listed requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and believe in the potential for growth and development.
