Role Description
The Handyman‐Shift Engineer is a full‐time, on‐site role based at Hyatt Regency Sydney in Sydney, NSW. This role is responsible for carrying out routine maintenance, repairs, and minor installations across guest rooms, public areas, back‐of‐house spaces, and hotel facilities to ensure a safe, well‐presented environment. Day‐to‐day tasks include responding to maintenance requests, troubleshooting basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance checks, and supporting larger engineering projects as directed. The Handyman‐Shift Engineer will also assist in monitoring building systems, reporting hazards or equipment faults, and adhering to safety and regulatory standards. This position works closely with the Engineering and Operations teams to minimise downtime, support hotel operations, and deliver a high level of guest satisfaction.
Qualifications
* Hands‐on maintenance skills in general repairs (e.g., basic carpentry, painting, minor plumbing and electrical troubleshooting) relevant to a large hotel or similar facility.
* Experience with building services and equipment (e.g., HVAC, fire safety systems, mechanical plant) and the ability to follow preventative maintenance schedules.
* Strong problem‐solving and fault‐finding abilities, including the capacity to prioritise work orders and respond efficiently to urgent maintenance requests.
* Commitment to workplace health and safety practices, including safe use of tools and equipment and adherence to hotel and regulatory standards.
* Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, contractors, and guests.
* Previous experience in a hotel, commercial building, or facilities maintenance role is highly regarded.
* Relevant trade qualification, certificate, or apprenticeship in a maintenance‐related field (e.g., building maintenance, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical) is an advantage.
* Flexibility to work shift patterns, weekends, and public holidays as required by hotel operations.
* Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the role, such as lifting and carrying.
