This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing team delivering complex design solutions across both overhead and underground networks.
About the Role:
As a Senior Overhead Line Designer, you will play a key role in delivering end-to-end line design solutions, from concept through to construction. You will also mentor junior designers, contribute technical expertise to projects, and support construction teams with practical engineering input.
This position involves a mix of office-based design work and fieldwork, including site visits and engineering set-outs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver high-quality designs for overhead and underground line networks, including upgrades, renewals, and new installations
* Produce designs compliant with relevant national and network standards
* Conduct site surveys and collect field data to inform design outcomes
* Provide engineering and design support to construction teams
* Liaise effectively with clients, customers, and internal stakeholders
* Mentor and support the development of other designers within the team
* Undertake peer reviews to ensure accuracy and quality of designs
* Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and design records
* Ensure all activities align with health & safety requirements and promote a strong safety culture
About You:
You'll be a motivated and experienced designer who thrives in a collaborative environment and takes pride in delivering quality work.
Key Requirements:
* Minimum 5 years' experience in line design within the electrical industry
* Proven experience in both sub-transmission and distribution design
* Strong knowledge of relevant standards and legislation, including AS/NZS 7000
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and industry design tools such as COLDNet/CATAN, PLS-CADD, or PLS-POLE
* Full NZ Class 1 Driver's Licence (or ability to obtain)
* Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
* High level of computer literacy and solid understanding of maths and geometry
* Ability to travel and work on remote sites when required
