Lithgow City Council is looking for a Compliance Officer in Lithgow, NSW.
About the Role
Reporting to the Development Manager, your responsibilities include delivering inspections, investigations, and statutory enforcement activities related to breaches of development consent, unauthorised and non-complying development, and environmental and land use matters.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct inspections, investigations, and statutory enforcement in response to customer and management requests within delegated powers and legislative frameworks.
* Gather evidence, undertake interviews and assess information to initiate compliance actions including issuing Notices, Orders, Penalty Infringement Notices and legal proceedings as necessary.
* Receive and investigate complaints and enquiries on development control and land use matters and instigate appropriate action.
* Monitor development control of existing sites and land uses to ensure compliance with consents, planning instruments and relevant legislation.
* Represent Council as an investigating officer and assist Council's solicitors in legal proceedings and represent Council in court as required.

About You
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
* Qualification(s) in Development Control, Environmental Health, Building Surveying, Town Planning, Environmental Science, land use planning, or Local Government Investigations, or possess relevant experience in a Compliance Officer role.
* Effective investigation and interviewing skills with demonstrated ability to undertake compliance investigations under relevant legislation.
* Experience issuing Notices, Orders, and Penalty Infringement Notices under applicable Acts and Regulations.
* Well-developed written and verbal communication skills to engage and negotiate with stakeholders regarding unauthorised works.
* Availability to undertake inspections outside normal office hours, including on-call roster.
* Possession of a current Class C driver's licence.
An ideal candidate would have knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, experience enforcing conditions of development consents, previous Local Government experience, and experience giving evidence before Local Court and Land and Environment Court.

Salary and Benefits
* Between $91,772.20 and $101,988.64 per annum, commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Additional remuneration may be considered for an exceptional candidate.
