Your Role
As a part-time Metalsmith, you'll make a difference by putting your trade qualifications to work in support of the community. Play a crucial role in fabricating, repairing and maintaining the equipment the Army uses to defend Australia. Plus, you'll also make mates for life and taste adventure working on Army training exercises.
Your military duties include:
* fabricating, repairing, modifying and reclaiming equipment and components
* joining, deforming and treating metals and composite materials (fibre-reinforced plastics and graphite-reinforced plastics)
* performing specialist welding tasks including aluminium welding (7000 series), repairs and modifications to ferrous armour, structural steel, homogenous armour, and quench and tempered steels
* conducting safety and technical inspections on specialist equipment and structural components

On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn at least $240/day tax-free.
Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.
Location
You will train for 3 weeks in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Following your training, you will be posted to an Army unit close to where you live.
Eligibility:
For this role, you must:
* Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
* Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics
* Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
* Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You'll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don't worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
* Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
* Be a qualified Welder 1st Class, Boilermaker Marker Off, Boilermaker Welder or Sheet Metal Worker having completed an approved apprenticeship or approved traineeship at a recognised institution as well as the full-time employment requirement for that trade.
