What You'll Be Doing
This is a 6‐month position (vacancy relief) based primarily in the Emergency Department (ED) with a 4‐week Anaesthetics rotation.
Rotations and Clinical Setting
This position is based at South East Regional Hospital (SERH), Bega, with exposure to rural practice and supervision from a Rural Generalist. You will be part of a departmental roster, developing practical skills relevant to the management of patients in the acute inpatient and rural general practice setting.
Who this role suits
This role is best suited to applicants intending to pursue a Rural Generalist pathway. Time in this position is accredited with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). It also provides valuable experience for trainees interested in acute care specialties, including ED and Anaesthesia.
Supervision, Responsibility and Support
You will be given responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with your experience, supported by appropriate supervision, training, and feedback to build relevant skills over the term of the appointment.
Orientation and Teaching
The position begins with a comprehensive orientation to familiarise you with hospital operations and ensure a baseline level of competency in core skills required for the role. You will also have access to a weekly teaching program, including hands‐on clinical learning, simulation‐based education, interactive workshops, and integration into multidisciplinary teams, complemented by ongoing mentorship from senior medical staff.
Accommodation and Travel
Accommodation is provided for the duration of the appointment, and a small travel allowance is available.
Selection Criteria
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Must have completed at least two postgraduate years training including a minimum 12‐month experience in an Australian Public Hospital or equivalent (not as an Observer).
* Evidence of satisfactory completion of at least 2 JMO terms within an acute care setting, or demonstrated equivalent experience, within the last 12 months.
* Demonstrated interest and willingness to live and work in rural or regional communities. Applicants should provide examples of previous experience or personal motivation to contribute to healthcare in non‐metropolitan areas.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi‐disciplinary team in the planning, delivery, and coordination of patient care.
* Excellent clinical knowledge, skills, and teamwork, with demonstrated ability to work both independently within a supervised complex clinical environment and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to recognise the acutely unwell patient and to initiate immediate management and institute Advanced Life Support, with a current ALS2 or equivalent qualification.
* Advanced organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Valid Working with Children Check and cleared National Police Check.

This is a Category 'A' position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy.
