What you'll be doing
The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician functions within a multidisciplinary team, and gives priority to coordination of the recovery of Aboriginal people with a mental illness or disorder, providing expert clinical services in collaboration with consumers, carers and other care providers, using an integrated and person centred approach.
* Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. This is a genuine occupational qualification for this position as described under Section 14 (d) of the Anti- Discrimination Act, 1977 (NSW).
* Relevant Tertiary qualifications as per clinical discipline as deemed appropriate by the employer and relevant Award with full APHRA registration or eligibility for membership in relevant professional body if required.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, effectively manage clinical issues, think critically and solve problems.
* Knowledge of contemporary MHDA practice relevant to the service/ program/ speciality, rural/ remote service provision and practical application of relevant MHDA legislation and policy.
* Sound communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to document accurately, write clearly and succinctly, consult effectively with others, and develop collaborative partnerships with a range of stakeholders.
* Competency in the use of information and communication technology, including standard office software, for email, internet searches, analysis of clinical data, presentations and clinical documentation.
* Demonstrated experiencing working with Aboriginal people and knowledge of clinical challenges and effective approaches in providing mental health and drug and alcohol services to Aboriginal people.
