This is a volunteer role within the Red Cross Transport service, designed to support older Australians and people experiencing transport disadvantage through door-to-door transport to non-urgent medical appointments, social outings, and essential errands.
The service provides companionship and helps maintain independence and community connection.
Responsibilities
Operate Red Cross vehicles to transport one or multiple clients per trip, locally and regionally, on weekdays.
Provide a safe, courteous, and respectful transport experience.
Assist with mobility aids and help clients board and alight safely (lifting up to 15 kg).
Engage in conversations and activities appropriate to the client or group.
Respect client privacy and dignity; maintain confidentiality.
Use appropriate digital systems and follow established work practices relevant to the program.
Record timely and accurate documentation of interactions with clients.
Maintain professional boundaries to safeguard the well-being of clients and volunteers.
Participate in mandatory learning and development to keep knowledge and skills up-to-date in aged and community care.
Uphold the Aged Care Code of Conduct and any Updates; demonstrate cultural sensitivity and inclusivity.
Availability and Commitments
Availability: Weekdays, during business hours.
Time involvement: approximately 1 day per week or fortnight.
Commitment to regular rostered shifts and mandatory training/e-learning (approximately 1 hour per month).
Commitment to ongoing learning and development within aged and community care.

Clients may bring a carer or registered friend on the ride.
Qualifications and Requirements
Current full Australian driver's licence and an excellent driving record.
Ability to operate vehicles and assist clients with mobility aids.
All volunteers must undertake a National Police Check (arranged through Red Cross).
Additional checks as required by state/territory (e.g., Working with Children Check) will be notified during onboarding and assisted by Red Cross.
Statutory Declaration if you have been a citizen or permanent resident of a country other than Australia after turning 16.
Commitment to upholding safety, privacy, and dignity of clients.
