AI Engineer – Adelaide, SA, AU

Role Seniority: mid level

About The Job

Are you ready to join a team putting AI to work on some of the world's hardest problems, with people who genuinely give a sh*t about the outcome? We're looking for a curious, entrepreneurial engineer who's built real things with AI and wants to be at the centre of a genuine shift in how knowledge work happens.

11point2 deploys entrepreneurial squads, augmented by AI agents, to unlock high-value opportunities trapped inside large organisations. We run missions in weeks, working with companies whose own systems weren't built to move that quickly. We're continuously evolving our method, mindset and mechanisms to scale mission execution excellence across multiple customers and countries, building valuable ventures that have an incredible impact on the world. 11point2 is reshaping its own operating model around AI, and the systems the firm runs on, from the agent stack to the operating rituals, are being built right now.

As an AI Engineer, you'll deploy into our first entrepreneurship centres, which we run with a major client, and help evolve how it operates with AI at the core. The role sits alongside our mission squads, finding the operational seams where AI can compress a week of work into a day, and then building the agents, tools and automations that make it real. Most of what you build will be used internally, by people running missions, rather than shipped as a product.

Most weeks you'll be close to the squads, listening for the operational seams where AI changes the maths, and building into them. Sometimes that's a prompt and a Zapier flow done in an afternoon. Sometimes it's a proper agent stack with retrieval and a small front end. Move fast, fix mistakes faster, and don't waste anyone's time; whatever gets the result fastest is the right answer.

Key Responsibilities

* Build AI agents, automations and internal tools that take real work off people's plates.
* Work alongside mission squads to find the operational seams where AI changes the maths, and build into them.
* Prototype quickly, sometimes in an afternoon, sometimes over a week, depending on what the result needs.
* Take existing prototypes and harden them into things that run reliably enough that people stop thinking about them as prototypes.
* Maintain and grow the centre's internal AI tooling as it spreads through the team.
* Help non‐engineers get genuine value out of the tools day to day, beyond the workshop demo.
* Document and share what's working so others on the team can build on it.
* Keep half an eye on what's moving in the AI ecosystem and quietly pull useful pieces into our work.

Personal Traits

* Entrepreneurial drive matters more than almost anything else. You're the person who has a rough version already built before the brief lands, and you don't let fear of getting it wrong hold you up.
* The most useful work in this role often starts before there's a clear question, so being able to curiously explore from first principles is essential.
* Extreme ownership of what you build, how it lands, and what it does once it's been deployed. You set the bar high for yourself and the team, and you take feedback without flinching and dish it out the same way.
* A feel for when something just needs to go out rough, and when it's worth slowing down to do properly.
* Comfort with ambiguity. Missions move, specs shift, and sometimes the thing you built last Tuesday isn't the thing you need now.
* A sense of humour about all of it. The work's serious, we try not to be flippant.

Skills and Experience

* Around two years of hands‐on experience building real things with AI, whether that's agent systems, automations, internal tools, or AI features inside a product.
* Strong fluency with the modern AI toolchain, including frontier LLMs, prompt engineering as a serious craft, and agent orchestration.
* Comfortable enough across the stack to take a tool from idea to live in front of a user.
* Experience deploying AI‐enabled features in cloud‐native environments.
* Experience taking existing prototypes and hardening them into reliable, production‐ready tools.
* An engineering or technical degree is preferred, although a strong track record of self‐built work could work if you can demonstrate equivalence.
* A side project or two you'd happily talk about.

Nice To Have

* Experience inside an enterprise environment, or embedded with non‐technical teams.
* A strong view on where AI in knowledge work is going.

Work Arrangement

This is a full‐time, on‐site role, working out of Lot Fourteen in Adelaide.

Equal Employment Opportunity

11point2 is an equal‐opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided based on qualifications, merit, business need and passion for uncovering and validating worthwhile ideas.

Additional Notes

Please consider applying even if you don't meet 100% of what's outlined.
