We are seeking a highly motivated and relational Student Support Officer (SSO) to join our regional team. This role is focused on working directly with students to build their personal and social capabilities through evidence-based approaches. The successful applicant will engage face‐to‐face with students to explicitly teach, model, and reinforce skills such as self‐awareness, self‐management, social awareness, social management and learning behaviours that support successful participation in school. Importantly, this is not a case‐management role. Instead, the SSO works alongside staff, students and families to deliver targeted skill development and build capability across the school community.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver explicit, evidence-based support to students to develop personal and social capabilities
* Work one‐on‐one and in small groups with students and staff to build skills such as self‐regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour
* Model effective practices in real‐time classroom and playground settings
* Coach and support school staff to embed consistent, evidence-based approaches across classrooms
* Collaborate with school support staff and teachers to design and implement strategies that improve student engagement and participation
* Build strong, respectful relationships with students to increase connection to school
* Contribute to a consistent and inclusive school environment through proactive, preventative approaches
You Will Demonstrate
* A strong commitment to working directly with students to build skills, rather than coordinating services
* Experience using or applying evidence-based practices in behaviour, wellbeing, or engagement
* Ability to coach, model, and build capability in others, including teachers and support staff
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form positive, productive relationships with young people
* Confidence working in dynamic environments and responding to student needs in the moment
* Experience working in the inclusion space or with disengaged or at‐risk students
Submit Your Application
* Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant work history)
* Attach a 2-page response to the How you will be assessed section of the attached role description
We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.
