Agency Overview: Suburban Land Agency (SLA) is the ACT Government land developer, shaping Canberra's future through suburban development and urban renewal.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

As a Development Manager, you will drive major development projects from concept to completion, manage complex projects, support innovation in development design, and work with government, industry, and community partners to deliver real impact.

* Project Delivery and reporting: Manage development projects to meet key targets, full project lifecycle, produce high-quality reports that translate technical issues into accessible insights for decision‐making and executive briefings.
* Governance and compliance: Lead procurement, contract management, approval processes, and risk management, including safety compliance, environmental approvals and ACT legislative requirements.
* Stakeholder management: Build relationships with ACT government agencies, industry partners, community groups, and internal teams; represent the organisation in negotiations, public meetings and industry forums.
* Leadership and team management: Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage workload priorities and deliver advice to SLA executives, SLA boards and ACT government ministers.
* Commercial accountability and cross‐team collaboration: Maintain accountability for commercial outcomes, work with SLA sales, marketing, and legal teams to support land release strategies and negotiate commercial agreements.

* Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
* Demonstrated examples of stakeholder input in land development, using feedback to improve outcomes.
* Experience working in dynamic environments, adapting to changing priorities, collaborating and maintaining focus on shared goals.

Professional/Technical Skills and Knowledge

* Experience managing project timelines, budgets, and overseeing consultant or contractor performance across disciplines (planning, architecture, civil engineering, or landscape design) to ensure timely, high‐standard delivery.
* Strong written communication skills, summarising complex information and preparing well‐structured reports and recommendations for diverse audiences.

Highly Desirable

* Tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience in a related field such as Project/Contract Management, Building and Construction Management, Property Law, Built Environment, Greenfield Suburb/Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture or Urban Planning.
* Moderate knowledge and experience in land development within the ACT, including project and contract management, procurement, design and civil, landscape or built‐form processes.

Pre‐requisite Qualifications and/or Experience

* Hold a relevant professional qualification or accreditation with a professional body recognised within Australia, or
* Have significant planning and/or infrastructure knowledge through project management experience.

* Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention Card.
