Position Information
Fairvale High School is a co-educational, comprehensive high school in South‑West Sydney, proudly serving a diverse, multicultural community. The school successfully caters for the academic, social, and wellbeing needs of approximately 1,314 students, with 94% from a language background other than English. The predominant cultural groups include Vietnamese, Arabic, and Assyrian. There are 316 students from refugee backgrounds and 26 Aboriginal students. Seven diverse learning classes cater for students with autism, mild intellectual disability, and moderate intellectual disability. The school has a Family Occupation and Employment Index of 163.
Fairvale High School offers a broad and balanced curriculum, which includes five VET pathways, designated EAL/D classes, and timetabled Literacy and Learning Support classes. Specific Selection Criteria
- Proven capacity to provide strong leadership in PDHPE, including the ability to lead staff through change, utilising evidence‑based teaching and learning strategies to improve student outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead and evaluate PDHPE, integrated sport and curriculum‑related wellbeing programs, and the promotion of student engagement in sport and physical activity
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a high‑functioning executive team and support the implementation of the School Excellence Plan and strategic directions
- Demonstrated experience in leading high‑quality programs and opportunities for a diverse range of learners, including High Potential and Gifted students
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
