JOHNEX explosives, a leading Australian manufacturer of commercial explosives for the mining industry, is seeking a skilled and self‐motivated Maintenance Technician/Fitter/Mechanic to join our team at our Kalgoorlie operation.
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager and Area Operations Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of all plant, equipment, and vehicles on site. This includes managing critical spare parts and maintaining operational readiness across our fleet.
About the Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining, inspecting, and repairing Mobile Processing Units (MPU) and Mobile Manufacturing Units (MMU) used in open‐cut explosive charging operations.
The position is offered as residential or FIFO with roster options including Monday – Friday (residential only) or 8x6 (residential if FIFO). Company provided accommodation consisting of shared housing in Kalgoorlie is available. A daily meal allowance is paid for FIFO employees for each day that they reside in the shared Kalgoorlie housing.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs on MPU/MMU equipment.
* Maintain all plant, site equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe, reliable operation.
* Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
* Complete accurate service reports and maintenance documentation.
* Manage stock levels of critical spare parts.
* Support maintenance of the operational fleet, including Scania trucks, Toyota light vehicles, and ancillary equipment.
* Work collaboratively with operations personnel to maximise equipment availability and reliability.
* Ensure all work complies with site safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
* Mechanical trade qualification (Heavy Duty Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, or similar preferred).
* 2+ years' experience working on MPUs or MMUs (highly regarded).
* Strong understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
* Experience maintaining heavy and light vehicles in a mining environment.
* Current Police Clearance.
* Ability to pass drug and alcohol screening.
* Ability to obtain an Explosives Security Clearance.
* High Risk Forklift Ticket (highly regarded).
* First Aid Certificate (highly regarded).
* Experience within the explosives industry (highly regarded).
* Ability to work independently in a remote mine site environment.
