Construction Supervisor: Certificate I in Construction (Gladstone)
Our Ignite Your Opportunities Program, delivered under the Queensland Government's Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, is designed to help community members gain valuable skills and secure meaningful employment. Through our Work Skills Traineeships, each intake offers up to 10 participants the opportunity to engage in public works, community, and environmental projects.
Role Overview:
Reporting to the Project Coordinator and Project Manager, the SQW Construction Supervisor is responsible for the safety, welfare, training, mentoring, and day-to-day supervision of SQW Trainees undertaking practical construction activities.
This position is offered as an 18-22 week contract on a casual basis, aligned with the duration of the program.
Preferred Start Date: Monday, 5th January 2026
Key Responsibilities:
* Facilitate safe manual handling practices and guide trainees in the use of hand and power tools.
* Support participants who may have limited or no prior workplace experience, providing patient, practical coaching.
* Ensure all trainees understand and comply with Workplace Health and Safety policies, procedures, and relevant legislation. This includes completing Take 5s and JSAs for each new task or job.
* Respond appropriately to emergencies within approved procedures, and investigate and report all incidents, near misses, and high-potential hazards.
* Coordinate logistics to support efficient project delivery, including scheduling, tool and equipment selection, job specifications, pre-planning material procurement, and preparing fortnightly look-ahead plans.
* Able to work Monday – Friday, 7.30 am – 3.30 pm (38 hours).
Selection Criteria:
* Queensland Driver's Licence (Unrestricted) – essential
* Current First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain)
* Ability to complete a Pre-employment Criminal History Check
* Previous supervising experience (construction background preferred)
