The Opportunity
We are seeking a seasoned Senior/Principal Database Administrator to join our infrastructure engineering team in Sydney. In this role, you will be a cornerstone of our global technical operations, managing high-stakes database environments for a leading financial intermediary that ensures market transparency and security.
* Hybrid Model: Requirement of 3 days in the office per week, one of which must be Tuesday.

Core Responsibilities
* System Integrity: Direct the installation, configuration, and proactive maintenance of high-throughput Postgres, Oracle, and MS-SQL environments.
* Performance Engineering: Execute advanced tuning, conduct trend analysis, and manage capacity planning to ensure optimum availability.
* Resiliency & Recovery: Develop and maintain runbooks for High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) frameworks, including the planning and execution of tests.
* Automation: Design and implement automated housekeeping, monitoring, and alerting tools to minimize manual intervention.
* Strategic Consulting: Act as a technical subject matter expert for development and architecture teams, defining global infrastructure standards and deployment best practices.
* Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex database bottlenecks and system anomalies, serving as a primary point of contact for third-party support.
Technical Profile
* Technical Depth: Expert-level knowledge of Postgres Enterprise and/or Community editions.
* Scale: Hands-on experience managing multi-terabyte, high-throughput systems in both physical and virtualised environments.
* Clustering: Proficiency with Red Hat Cluster (RHEL 9) specifically for database workloads.
* Data Protection: Extensive experience with logical and physical replication across distributed sites.
* Tooling: Mastery of backup/recovery techniques, specifically using pgbackrest or Commvault.
* Advantageous Skills: Knowledge of Postgres Partitioning and Foreign Data Wrappers.
* OS & Scripting: Strong Linux diagnostic skills and proficiency in Bash, Awk, Sed, or PowerShell.
* Network & Storage: Understanding of cluster file systems (NFS, GPFS, ACFS) and an understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and routing.
* Cross-Platform: Previous experience with Oracle database systems is considered a bonus.
