Overview
Senior Lawyer - Privacy at ASIC. The role provides expert legal and privacy advice on complex information and data law issues, ensures ASIC's compliance with privacy obligations, and serves as a Privacy Officer under the Privacy Code. The Information & Data Law team supports ASIC's obligations under the FOI Act and Privacy Act within the Corporate Legal Services unit.
Responsibilities
* Deliver expert legal and privacy advice on complex information and data law matters.
* Lead and coordinate privacy impact assessments, incident responses, and privacy assurance activities.
* Advise on the use, sharing, and disclosure of ASIC information under relevant laws.
* Embed privacy-by-design solutions in technology and data projects.
* Monitor and interpret privacy reforms and legislative changes.
* Mentor, guide, and supervise junior team members to ensure high-quality outcomes.
* Prepare internal reports and briefings on privacy-related issues.
* Build and lead an effective team, fostering professional development and strong performance.
* Recommend system improvements to optimise long-term results.
Technical Requirements & Certifications
* Hold legal qualifications and be eligible for an Unrestricted Legal Practicing Certificate in a State or Territory of Australia.
* Minimum 6+ years post-admission experience (PAE) as a lawyer, with relevant expertise in government, in-house, or law firm settings.
* Demonstrated understanding of the law, including the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, financial services legislation, FOI Act, Privacy Act, and related policies.
* Experience in governance and compliance is highly desirable.
