The Learning Support Officer is responsible for supporting Yirara College to strengthen the recognition, use and celebration of students' first languages and cultures across curriculum, boarding and community life. The role provides resources and learning opportunities that enhance student engagement, wellbeing and learning outcomes. Working collaboratively with teaching and boarding staff, the Learning Support Officer mentors and supports staff to engage meaningfully with first languages and cultural knowledge, including through Sharing Language Classes and targeted cultural education. The position contributes to a culturally safe, inclusive and responsive College environment by researching, developing and implementing resources, training and communication strategies that promote first languages and culture through learning programs, visual culture, media, signage and creative expression. Through effective communication, collaboration and accountability, the role supports Yirara College's commitment to culturally robust practice and continuous improvement.
STUDENT SUPPORT & LEARNING
* Assist students to engage positively in learning environments
* Provide individual and small‐group learning support as required
* Support students' personal wellbeing and self‐regulation
* Assist students to monitor and manage behaviour to minimise classroom learning impact
* Model and teach respectful behaviour and positive learning habits
* Demonstrate and instruct students in the effective use of ICT equipment and learning technologies
* Work collaboratively to support student wellbeing holistically
* Provide culturally appropriate support that affirms student identity and community connections
* Undertake yard duty supervision as timetabled
This is a term time position 8:15 - 3:15pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8:15 - 4:45pm on Tuesday
Pay: $59,286.54 – $69,000.00 per year
