Metal Machinist

The Metal Machinistis responsible for setting up and operating machine tools to shape and form metal stock and castings to precise specifications. This role involves interpreting detailed drawings and CAD systems, calculating dimensions, and performing machining processes to create exact parts. The machinist may also undertake heat treatment processes and operate CNC machines, as well as other specialised tools and equipment.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Set up and operate CNC machines, drilling, turning, boring, plating, and milling machines, lathes, and other hand tools to shape metal parts.
* Set up components for welding and joining according to specifications.
* Read blueprints, drawings, and CAD designs to understand job specifications.
* Calculate dimensions and measure and mark metal for machining processes.
* Determine the appropriate equipment or method based on job requirements.
* Machine parts and components to be used in assembling final products.
* Test and inspect surfaces, structures, and components to discover and correct flaws.
* Maintain accuracy and precision in all machining tasks using precise measuring equipment.
* Maintain equipment to ensure it operates safely and efficiently.
* Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on machinery.
* Wear appropriate safety gear, including goggles, gloves, boots, and protective clothing.
* Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
* Undertake other duties related to skills and capabilities as required by the company.
Requirements
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Trade qualifications in a relevant field or commensurate work experience.
* Experience with CNC machines and various machining tools.
* Strong understanding of technical drawings and specifications.
* Proficiency in using precise measuring instruments.
* Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices in a machining environment.
ELIGIBILITY:
* Good written and spoken English
* Eligible for employment in Australia
SKILLS:
* Intermediate computer skills with experience in using Office 365- Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
* Ability to work under limited supervision individually or in a team environment.
* Autonomous and solves their work planning problems.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
