Opportunity Overview
Alice Springs Hospital offers ACEM registrars a special skills post in Aboriginal Health as part of an ED Care Coordination Team. Working through a Social Emergency Medicine lens, you will engage in a bicultural model of working and learning alongside an Aboriginal ED Care Coordinator and an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
The team's model brings together medical, cultural and social expertise to help you understand the drivers behind patients' presentations and to assist from a strengths‐based approach.
Responsibilities
* Engage in a bicultural model of working and learning alongside an Aboriginal ED Care Coordinator and an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
* Participate in case coordination for the most vulnerable Aboriginal frequent attenders in the ED, addressing drivers such as homelessness, chronic medical conditions, mental illness, alcohol and other drugs, cognitive impairment (often from repeated trauma), domestic violence, displacement and poverty.
* Collaborate with key internal and external services and attend regular meetings with the term supervisor (a local FACEM) to undertake case reviews and develop care plans.
* Receive day‐to‐day supervision from duty FACEMs in ED.
* Work Monday to Friday 7:30‐3:30 pm, with flexibility for evenings and weekends as needed.
Training & Accreditation
* Duration: 3‐6 month rotations, ACEM accredited as a special skills position in Aboriginal Health and TS4 accredited.
* ACCRM accredited as part of an Aboriginal Health AST or CGT.
* Access to general ED department quality‐protected teaching for four hours a week.
* Support for examinations and an opportunity to combine the Aboriginal Health rotation with an Alice Springs Emergency Department rotation.
* Alice Springs ED holds Tier 2 and training stage 4 accreditation for non‐major and rural ACEM ED training, and an ACRRM AST in EM.
