About The Role At CSR, we’re shaping the future of Australia’s construction landscape through smarter, safer, and more sustainable building materials. Our Hebel business is a leader in high-performance autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) products – trusted for their strength, innovation, and energy efficiency. With continued investment in modernising our operations, we’re now seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to help drive automation, safety, and reliability across our Somersby manufacturing site.
As our Control Systems Engineer, you’ll play a key role in maximising the benefits of new technologies and improving automation reliability across the Hebel plant. This is a hands‑on role focused on process improvement, control system upgrades, and major automation projects – including a significant plant upgrade scheduled for December.
You’ll be the site’s go‑to technical expert for all automation and control systems, driving initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, and performance across continuous manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage automation and control system projects from design through to commissioning.
Identify root causes of equipment failure and implement long‑term reliability solutions.
Design and implement automation strategies to improve production capability and safety.
Manage capital projects, including scoping, budgeting, and implementation.
Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to fine‑tune systems and reduce downtime.
Ensure all installations meet relevant Australian standards and safety codes.
Mentor maintenance electricians to enhance problem‑solving and automation competency.
Provide leadership on machine safety and WHSE compliance.
Contribute to the planning and delivery of major shutdown and upgrade works.
About You We’re looking for a practical, forward‑thinking engineer who thrives in a fast‑paced, technical manufacturing environment and enjoys being close to the equipment and people who make production happen.
You’ll Bring
Degree qualifications in Electrical, Mechatronic, or similar Engineering disciplines.
Extensive experience in control systems or automation within a high‑volume manufacturing setting.
Demonstrated expertise in PLC/SCADA systems.
Proven success managing control system upgrades and automation projects.
Strong understanding of functional safety (AS4024) and industrial networking.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and project management capability.
Hands‑on approach, with the ability to lead, troubleshoot, and mentor others.
