About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mentor to join our Remote Area Services (RAS) team.
The Mentor provides on‐job guidance, practical support, and mentoring to RAS Utility Workers, building their capability, confidence, and work readiness. You'll work alongside Utility Workers and visiting service crews, supporting them in gaining units of competency, developing safe work practices, and embedding skills through day‐to‐day coaching.
This role involves regular travel to remote communities on a rotating basis, providing hands‐on support and oversight of daily duties. If you have a genuine passion for developing people and thrive in remote, culturally diverse environments, we want to hear from you.

Key responsibilities of the role
* Provide regular mentoring, encouragement, and guidance to RAS Utility Workers in the performance of their roles
* Support Utility Workers in developing confidence, independence, and safe working practices
* Assist employees in working toward Verifications of Competency, including those aligned with Certificate II in Remote Area Essential Services and Certificate II in Rural Operations
* Work alongside Utility Workers to demonstrate correct work methods, reinforce training, and provide real‐time coaching
* Support peer‐to‐peer learning and encourage teamwork between Utility Workers in each community
* Visit each community on a rotating basis to provide practical support and oversight of daily duties
* Assist with coordinating site visits by service crews, Essential Service Officers, and Municipal Services Supervisors, ensuring Utility Workers are actively involved in maintenance and repair work
* Provide feedback to KRSP management on progress, skills development, and areas where additional training or support may be required
* Monitor safe work practices and promote compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and community standards
* Build strong, respectful relationships with Utility Workers, service staff, and community members
* Lead by example in safe work practices, hazard identification, and risk management
Location
This role services predominantly Indigenous communities in the Fitzroy Valley. We're open to applicants from any base location, provided you understand and are comfortable with the delivery location.
Flexible roster to suit the successful applicant:
* 2 weeks on / 1 week off roster for applicants based outside the Fitzroy Valley, or
* Monday to Friday for applicants residing in the Fitzroy Valley.
What you will need
An ability to demonstrate a high work ethic, integrity, and safe work practices together with a positive mindset.
Essential criteria
* Experience in mentoring, coaching, or supervising staff in an operational environment
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and motivate others
* Ability to work independently and travel regularly to remote communities
* Experience working in remote or Indigenous community settings
* Cultural awareness and understanding of working with Indigenous people
* Commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices
* Current C class driver's licence and clean driving history
* Unrestricted working rights in Australia
* National Police Clearance
Desirable criteria
* Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40122) or equivalent mentoring/teaching experience
* Trade, technical, or municipal services background (water, power, waste, civil, or similar)
* Understanding of adult learning principles and practical skills development
* First Aid Certificate
* Consider adding: Experience with driving on remote, unsealed roads
