Overview
The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Registrar in Geriatric Medicine for the 2027 Doctors in Training program at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The Royal Hobart Hospital is a tertiary hospital in southern Tasmania serving a population of 300,000. The aged care department includes 112 inpatient beds (60 acute, 42 subacute, 10 behavioural) and a GEM at Home service. It provides a wide range of clinical, educational and research activities for geriatric patients.
Employment Details
Salary: $138,978 to $194,675 per annum.
Award: Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award, Medical Practitioner Level 5-11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar).
Employment type: Fixed‐term, full‐time.
Period of employment: 1 February 2027 to 7 February 2028 (part‐time hours may be considered).

Royal Hobart Hospital – Peacock 3 / Peacock 1 / Older Persons Unit, South Tasmania.
Job Description
* Day‐to‐day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients.
* Provide after‐hours emergency cover at the hospital.
* Work with a team of junior doctors and consultants within a collegial environment of 17 geriatricians.
* Participate in the geriatric evaluation and management (GEM) subacute services, outpatient clinics (including regional TAZREACH Outreach), education to undergraduates, allied health, nursing and postgraduate students, and research activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
* General registration or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration where applicable.
* Suitable for Basic Physician trainees, GP Registrars, and, as a non‐core term, Advanced Trainees in Rehabilitation or Emergency Medicine. Advanced Trainee in Geriatric Medicine is a distinct position.
