The Crisis Stabilisation Centre (CSC) is a first-of-its-kind service in South Australia and a rare opportunity to help establish an entirely new model of crisis care from the ground up. This 16-bed, 24/7 service provides a voluntary, short‐stay (up to 72 hours) alternative to Emergency Departments, offering a safe, therapeutic, home‐like environment for people experiencing mental health crisis and/or suicidal distress. Co-located within the Lyell McEwin Hospital precinct alongside Sonder's Medicare Mental Health Centre, the CSC is designed for seamless integration across hospital, urgent and community services. Guided by a co‐designed Peer First, Peer Last Philosophy of Care, and grounded in zero suicide principles, trauma‐informed practice and cultural safety, this new service represents a once‐in‐a‐career opportunity to help shape culture, practice, and care at the very beginning.

Hours

The Crisis Stabilisation Centre operates 24/7. The Psychiatric Registrar will work a mix of weekdays and weekends, 9:00am–5:00pm, with additional participation in the Medical on‐call rotation.

About the Role

The Psychiatry Registrar/Medical Officer is responsible for providing psychiatric assessment and medical input under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist.

The role contributes to diagnostic assessment, formulation, treatment planning, medication review and prescribing, psychoeducation, and the preparation of accurate and timely clinical documentation.

The position also participates in multidisciplinary team discussions and supports collaborative clinical decision‐making to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and person‐centred care.

Experience Requirements

Psychiatry Registrar

* Demonstrated experience in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and management of individuals experiencing acute and chronic mental health conditions.
* Ability to manage complex presentations including psychosis, mood disorders, substance use, personality disorders, and trauma‐related conditions.
* Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and contributing to coordinated care planning.
* Eligibility for, or participation in, specialist psychiatry training programs and registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Medical Officer

* Demonstrated clinical experience in mental health, general medicine, emergency medicine and/or psychiatric services.
* Experience assessing and managing patients with a range of mental health presentations, including acute distress and severe mental illness.
* Ability to undertake psychiatric assessments, formulate management plans, and provide ongoing clinical care under appropriate supervision.
* Experience identifying and responding to risks relating to suicide, self‐harm, deterioration, or safeguarding concerns.
* Strong communication skills with experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Qualification and Other Requirements

* Current enrolment in a RANZCP Psychiatry Registrar Training Program is desirable.
* Full registration with AHRPA
* Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent
* Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner
* Current Working with Children Check (WWCC), or willingness to obtain
* Current National Police Check (NPC), or willingness to obtain
* Professional Indemnity insurance
