Based in Penfield, SA, you will split your time between the office and on-site, partnering with operational teams across logistics, intermodal operations, train crewing, and maintenance.
About the Role
As the Health & Safety Business Partner, your primary focus will be to support the implementation of safety initiatives, mentor operational teams, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and internal frameworks. You will play a key role in rolling out a new Safety Management System, driving continuous improvement, and promoting a proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Culture
- Coach and mentor leaders and frontline teams to build strong safety behaviours.
- Promote a proactive, positive safety culture across all operational areas.
- Lead by example in championing safety values.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Rail Safety requirements, Chain of Responsibility, and NHVR regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective action planning.
Training & Development
- Deliver safety training and support competency development across teams.
- Guide employees on hazard identification, risk mitigation, fatigue management, and emergency response procedures.
Operational Support
- Work closely with operational teams to provide day‑to‑day health and safety support.
- Assist in developing work instructions and safety‑related processes.
- Ensure accurate incident reporting and legal compliance.
Regulatory Engagement
- Liaise with safety regulators and support audit/inspection preparation.
- Prepare safety reports for senior leadership.
- Lead initiatives to improve safety systems, processes, and performance.
- Participate in safety committees and contribute to strategic safety planning.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- Experience in high‑risk industries such as transport, logistics, rail, or heavy vehicle operations.
- Strong background in incident investigation and risk assessment.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Solid understanding of WHS legislation, RSNL, CoR, and NHVR requirements.
- Additional qualifications in safety auditing, risk management, or environmental management.
- Certifications related to CoR or Rail Safety compliance.
