About the Role
Reporting to the Sport and Recreation Manger ACT, NSW & QLD, the successful applicant will work with the Department of Justice and Community Safety (JaCS) to deliver a diverse range of recreation and health promotion programs, campaigns, approved educational information and material to the residents at public housing sites in Canberra and the broader ACT community aimed at improving the day to day lives and health of the residents of those public housing sites. The High-Density Housing Safety and Community program (HDHP) is a multi-agency initiative designed to improve the lives of and reduce recidivism rates for residents, and is targeted at high and complex needs residents, including socially disengaged and isolated people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, women, children, and youth who have had contact with or are at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system. In addition, the successful applicant will be responsible for organising the work of and rendering assistance to the Sports Coordinators and Health Promotion staff to support the organisation in its delivery of a diverse range of sport and recreation and health activities in the designated areas.
About You
To be considered for this role you will need:
- A qualification from a recognised TAFE, College or University in Community Services, Health, Sport and Recreation, or a similar discipline.
- And/or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the provision of direct support services to diverse clients
- Demonstrated experience in direct program delivery in health, recreation, community development or a similar area.
- Awareness of the issues faced by marginalised target groups.
- Commitment to working respectfully with individuals and groups from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Experience working effectively within community networks.
- Demonstrated ability to, with minimal supervision, work constructively and harmoniously in a team.
- Sound time management and organisational skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of children, young people and adults.
You will stand out if you have:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues faced by marginalised groups specifically in relation to health and wellbeing.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships within community networks.
- Demonstrated experiencing in working with community service organisations.
- Experience in Sport, Recreation or Health.

This is a full-time role (38 hours) working over 5 days. Maximum term appointment up to 30th of June 2026, commencing September 2025 with the possibility of extension dependent on funding. A competitive remuneration will be paid at SCHaDS Level 4.1 plus superannuation with the option to increase your income through salary packaging.
