The Team
North West Regional Hospital is a modern 160 bed facility located in Burnie, Tasmania, providing high quality health care and specialist services to the North West region. Join our team as a Domestic Services Officer within the Corporate Services Department. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in ward and ancillary areas in accordance with established policies, standards and guidelines.
The Role
This role involves rotating shift work year‐round (365 days), including early morning, afternoon, and night shifts. The roster spans weekdays, weekends, and public holidays, ensuring essential services are maintained at all times. Working on a casual basis, the role responds to service demands by maintaining infection control standards, supporting patient, staff and resident wellbeing, and contributing to quality and safety outcomes across hospital settings. With routine supervision and direction provided by the relevant Supervisor/Manager, the Domestic Services Officer is responsible for:
* Cleaning ward areas, clinics, offices and departments within the health facility.
* Performing infection control, cytotoxic and sterile cleaning duties to minimise spread of infection across the health facility.
* Collecting and disposing of all waste including contaminated waste into appropriate receptacles.
* Working in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety guidelines.
* Maintaining patient confidentiality.
Qualifications and Experience
You will need:
* Ability to safely and efficiently use and control various items of industrial cleaning equipment including a working knowledge, or the ability to acquire such knowledge, in the use of cleaning chemicals.
* An awareness of, or the ability to acquire an awareness of, universal precautions and cleaning policies, protocols and procedures relating to cytotoxic and sterile areas and infection control.
* Demonstrated willingness to participate in quality improvement programs and training activities.
* Ability to prioritise work, together with sound communication skills and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships.
Details of Appointment
Multiple fixed‐term casual, shift worker (fully rotational) positions, working as and when required, commencing at a mutually agreed upon date. Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant. For a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary
$57,130 to $62,486 per annum (Pro rata). An Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022. Base rate is $28.80 per hour, plus 25% casual loading and penalties.
