We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aviation Team Lead to spearhead the growth and delivery of our Aviation services from our Brisbane office. This leadership role is pivotal in driving project execution, securing new business, and fostering strong client relationships, with a primary focus on the Queensland market. The successful candidate will manage projects for a diverse client base, including international and regional commercial airports and the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces’ (ADF/NZDF) portfolio of airfields. The role also involves key collaboration and support for our wider teams across Australia and New Zealand.
What will a day in this role look like
Market Strategy:
Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy to target and secure new aviation work across Queensland.
Client Portfolio Focus:
Cultivate and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with a diverse range of clients, including international and regional commercial airport operators and key stakeholders within the ADF/NZDF airfields portfolio.
Winning Work:
Lead the preparation of high-quality proposals, tenders, and expressions of interest for both commercial and defence aviation projects, ensuring clear alignment with client needs.
Project Leadership:
Take overall responsibility for the successful and profitable delivery of complex aviation projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the client’s satisfaction.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other discipline leads (e.g., Civil, Electrical, Structural) to integrate multi-disciplinary inputs effectively into aviation-specific projects.
Regional Support:
Provide technical expertise and project management oversight to support key aviation projects being delivered by teams in other Australian and New Zealand offices as required.
Excellence:
Drive technical excellence across our ANZ Aviation portfolio.
Peer collaboration:
Participate in AECOM’s Global Aviation Technical Academy and have active involvement in the Aviation Technical Practice Group, comprised of a network of 850+ peers around the globe.
Qualifications The qualities that help you thrive

Experience:
Ideally 15+ years’ experience in airside infrastructure engineering design, aviation pavement design, pavement condition assessment and evaluation.
Client Knowledge:
Demonstrated experience working with either commercial airport clients (international or regional) and/or the Defence sector (ADF/NZDF), understanding their distinct procurement, security, and technical requirements.
Leadership:
Proven track record of successfully leading, mentoring, and managing a technical project delivery team.
Qualifications:
A relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Aviation Management, or a related field. Professional accreditation (e.g., Chartered Engineer / RPEQ) is highly desirable.
Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of standards and guidelines from different organizations and authorities including CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority), FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), IATA (International Air Transport Association) and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).
