Position Information
Peakhurst West Public School with an enrolment of approximately 280 students, aims to provide excellent educational opportunities for all students (K‑6) in a caring environment. The school offers a balanced and varied curriculum and takes pride in its achievements across all Learning Areas. There is a focus on equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in an everchanging world. Student wellbeing and the provision of a supportive learning environment remain the focus for staff and the parent community. Peakhurst West Public School supports students from a diverse range of cultural and social backgrounds, 64% of students are from a non‑English speaking background and 5% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background. The school comprises of 11 mainstream classes and 3 support classes for students with autism and mild intellectual disabilities. The school provides strong foundations for all students with an emphasis on excellence in literacy and numeracy, effective learning and support strategies and quality extra‑curricular opportunities.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach infants and/or primary with exemplary knowledge of curriculum implementation and proven ability to lead evidence‑based, data‑informed teaching practices to improve student outcomes in literacy and numeracy.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, leading and monitoring explicit teaching practices, including using data, leading a team and delivering high‑impact skilled learning.
- Experience in supporting staff and students through positive wellbeing and behaviour practices, to deliver a quality learning environment for all students.
- A visible, approachable leader with evidence of exceptional emotional intelligence and communication skills to build and strengthen authentic and positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the broader community.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
