Position Information
Macksville High School is a co‑educational comprehensive high school, situated in the picturesque Nambucca Valley on the Mid North Coast, close to beaches, rivers and national parks. It opened in 1950 and has a tradition of high academic, sporting, cultural and civic achievements. The current school enrolment is 400 students including a significant number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students (19%). Our students enjoy extensive curriculum selections utilising outstanding facilities including a school farm, 1000 seat capacity indoor stadium, performance theatre, a large sporting oval, Vocational Education facilities, Gaagal room and Breakfast Club. We have a Learning Centre, Tutorial Centre and Multi‑Categorical classes which provide direct specialist assistance for students and staff through developing personalised learning and social skills programs within a supportive environment.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach Mathematics (7-12), willingness to teach Mathematics (11-12) and Mathematics (Extension 1 and 2), with demonstrated capacity to lead staff in the development of teaching and learning programs and assessment practices.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team, demonstrating capacity to collaboratively engage and motivate teachers to adopt innovative pedagogy and to inspire the potential of all students.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead a whole school improvement in numeracy which includes contributing to data analysis and co‑designing professional learning, to support school directions and the School Excellence Plan.
- Proven ability to work effectively with students, staff and carers, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families, to positively enhance school culture and academic outcomes.
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
- Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
