About the Business Unit

The Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes team within Corrections Victoria leads the design, development, implementation and monitoring of policies, programs and services aimed at reducing the over‐representation of Aboriginal people within the Victorian correctional system. This role sits within the Aboriginal Operational Strategic Support team, responsible for policy, contracts and procurement, governance and secretariat functions, and planning and reporting for key programmes and services.

About the Role

The Aboriginal Training Consultant will deliver the Working with Aboriginal People in Prison training component for prison officers, ensuring staff are equipped with the cultural capabilities required to operate effectively within Corrections Victoria's complex environments.

Responsibilities

* Utilise subject‐matter expertise to develop training materials and delivery plans for new working‐with‐Aboriginal prisoners training tailored to the custodial environment.
* Collaborate with Aboriginal stakeholders, Learning and Capability teams and other operational stakeholders to design, schedule and continuously improve training programmes.
* Deliver engaging and tailored training sessions to Corrections Victoria staff.

Qualifications

* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting it.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
* Proven ability to lead engaging group and individual training sessions that achieve targeted learning outcomes, with strong leadership skills to guide and mentor trainees.
* Strong understanding of custodial environments, including prison operations, workforce practices, and responsibilities of prison officers.
* Operational experience in Victorian prisons is highly desirable.
* Current driver's licence (mandatory).
* Certificate of Aboriginality (CoA) must be provided prior to appointment (mandatory).

Additional Information

Pay range: VPS grade 5 – $116,413 – $128,631 plus superannuation.
