Family Time Facilitator – Canberra ACT Only – Cherished Connections – Children's Contact Service
Cherished Connections is seeking an experienced, reliable and child-focused Family Time Facilitator / Children's Contact Worker to support supervised family time, supervised changeovers and related child-contact services in Canberra, ACT only.
This recruitment round is strictly for candidates based in, or genuinely available to work across, Canberra and the ACT region only. Applications for Sydney, NSW or other locations will not be considered.
This is a contractor role offering flexible hours, with regular weekend and some weekday availability essential. The role is best suited to candidates who already have practical experience working with children and families in supervised, welfare, child protection, family support, family violence, mental health, family law or related community service settings.

Cherished Connections is a community-based, child-focused Children's Contact Service supporting families through supervised visits, supervised changeovers, virtual visits, transport support and child familiarisation sessions.

About the Role
As a Family Time Facilitator, you will be responsible for supporting children and parents during supervised family time and/or supervised changeovers in community-based settings such as parks, libraries and other approved public venues.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervising parent-child contact in a safe, neutral and child-focused manner.
* Observing and documenting parent-child interactions accurately and objectively.
* Preparing clear, professional and court-appropriate observation reports using service templates.
* Managing interactions in accordance with court orders, parenting arrangements, service agreements and safety expectations.
* Supporting children with calm, age-appropriate communication during transitions and contact.
* Maintaining professional boundaries, neutrality and confidentiality at all times.
* Communicating promptly and professionally with the Service Coordinator and relevant team members.
Essential Criteria
* Prior experience working with children and families in a professional capacity.
* Prior experience involving supervision, child-focused observation, family support, case notes, incident notes, progress notes or formal report writing.
* Relevant qualifications or current study in Social Work, Psychology, Social Science, Counselling, Community Services, Child Protection, Family Support, Mental Health, Family Violence, Education or a related field.
* A strong understanding of child safety, trauma-informed practice, family separation dynamics and professional boundaries.
* Ability to remain calm, neutral and professional when working with complex family dynamics.
* Strong observational skills and the ability to record factual, objective and relevant information.
* Excellent written and verbal English communication skills at a professional standard.
* Ability to prepare structured, clear and court-appropriate written reports.
* Regular weekend availability and flexibility for occasional weekday or public holiday work.
* Access to a reliable computer or laptop and proficiency in Microsoft Word.
* A current ACT Working With Vulnerable People registration/card, or the ability to obtain one before commencing regulated work.
* A current National Police Check, or a willingness to obtain one.
* A current, valid ABN, as this is a contractor role.
* A current full driver's licence, access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle, and willingness to travel within Canberra and the ACT region.
Required Experience and References
This is not an entry-level role. Applicants must have prior relevant experience where the supervision, observation or support of children and/or families formed part of their professional duties.
Shortlisted applicants must be able to provide:
* At least one relevant industry referee who can comment on their experience working with children, families, supervision, case notes or report writing.
* Evidence of relevant qualifications or sector experience.
* Current or pending ACT WWVP registration/card.
* National Police Check documentation, if already held.
* Evidence of a current valid ABN for contractor engagement.
* A current full driver's licence, access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle, and willingness to travel within Canberra and the ACT region as required for community-based visits, changeovers and related service duties.
Desirable Criteria
* Previous work as a Family Time Supervisor, Children's Contact Worker, Contact Facilitator or Supervised Contact Worker.
* Experience in family law, child protection, domestic and family violence, trauma-informed practice or post-separation family support.
* Experience preparing court-appropriate notes, case notes, behavioural observations or formal reports.
* Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse families.
* Ability to work independently in community-based settings while following clear service procedures.
